Carpenter Take Home First FTF Jones Cup Series Win!

FTF hit the rough surface at Atlanta Motor Speedway yesterday, with a total of 55 drivers trying to make the field of 40. After a few unintended delays from race control, the field was set for 167 laps in the Coca-Cola 400k Sponsored by Kyle Merkel.

Cosmin Ioanesiu showed strength early, taking his first pole of 2017. However, Kollin Keister had the Stages set in his favor, winning back to back in Stage 1 and Stage 2. A late incident would foil Keister’s chances, as he was relegated to a finish outside the top 20. After utilizing strategy, Corey Carpenter led the field to the final green flag in overtime, and held off Matt Vassar and Ioanesiu, who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Taylor Morgans takes over the point lead after co-leaders Chad Mikosz and Andrew Fessler failed to qualify. Interesting to note, Morgans did not finish in the top 10 in either race, but has had the most Stage Bonus Points earned so far, which has helped him take an 8 point lead over Vassar.

Next week is the Sonic 200 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Stages are yet to be set. Will probably be 40 – 40 – 54.
